Now the main administration building, this part of the college was the old High School. The building itself dates from the late 19thC. It held both Primary and Secondary classes. The former was 'fee paying'. When I was there, you could still receive 'corporal punishment' if you misbehaved. This usually involved being given 'the belt' or strapped over the hands with a leather belt. Some of the teachers could use the belt so that it really did hurt and left you hands and wrists bruised. The attitude of your parents was, ".. well you must have deserved it"

In this pre-tech age, blackboards were still used and often a blackboard duster was thrown at you, but you just dodged and the person behind you got hit. Some of the Technical teachers used to hit with large T-squares. One was called 'Basher' Armstrong. Even as a 'Posh' School, fights between pupils was not uncommon. The aftermath of this was usually both parties being 'belted', no pun there.
